Charcoal, Graphite and White Chalk on Olive Toned Saint Armand Paper - 16”x16”

A year ago, I set a goal for myself to be in “The Best of Drawing ✍️ Magazine” and in keeping with my mantra ‘always dreaming 💭 one size bigger’ I am pleased to say that my copy arrived on the doorstep today - and I’m in it 😊❣️This drawing is entitled ’Leviathan and His Gentleman’ and is charcoal, graphite and white chalk on olive 🫒 toned @saintarmand handmade paper from Montreal. This mass/linear drawing ✍️ offers a sneak-peek into my world 🌎 depicting walks in the Toronto suburbs. In this daily ritual, my husband and I find reverence “in the moment”, a pivotal coping strategy during Covid. Such walks entail talks of art 🎨and future travel 🧳 adventures while also reflecting upon old ones - like our trip to London where we bought this top hat 🎩 and beloved dragon 🐉 cane. This leviathan alludes to imaginary places that the heart ❤️ desires while coping with our current reality. This mental-emotional duality was the catalyst for this work.Making Canadian snow ❄️ fall from the sky using white conte upon subtle light flecks inherent to my favourite paper makes the ‘medium part of the message’. Drawn from life in charcoal, I celebrate 🎉 the pedimento in this work, leaving visible traces of past marks suggesting a heartbeat 💗 to the piece - a nod to the masters.
