Painted Master Copies
After Bouguereau
This fleshy cheeked cherubesque portrait is copied after William-Adolphe Bougereau - one of my favourite French academic painters. I fell in love with his buttery flesh tones and felt compelled to copy this work. This petite painting is perfect for any avid collector.
The tonal shifts are so subtle, especially referencing children’s complexions…
… as an artist, recreating this master’s flesh tones was of great interest.
Through copying this piece I have observed that these subtleties are achieved through gradual colour shifts, more so than value shifts. This was a challenging task and somewhat counter intuitive to my academic training.
